ABSTRACT
The chapter describes the life cycle roles and responsibilities and key activities for public transport systems, following a structured approach ensuring completeness and traceability of safety and reliability, availability, and maintainability aspects. One can expect this approach as reasonable suggestions for the future, aiming to contribute to the European drive for harmonization and to simplify the upgrade/modernization or new construction of public transport systems. Cross acceptance of technical systems, processes, and approvals is one of the key attempts to benefit all parties involved, be it the manufacturers and suppliers, the operators, or the safety authorities.
