ABSTRACT

Viral gastroenteritis is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in children in developing countries. 1–3 Rotaviruses, caliciviruses (norovirus and sapovirus), astroviruses, and enteric adenoviruses have been recognized as the most common cause of gastroenteritis. 1–5 Several other newly discovered enteric viruses in the Picornaviridae family that are potentially associated with gastroenteritis, including kobuviruses, 6 saffold viruses, 7 and cosaviruses, 8,9 have also been recently reported.
