ABSTRACT

Intestinal flukes are human pathogenic trematodes that are responsible for around 50 million reported cases worldwide. 1 Heterophyes Cobbold, 1866, is the genus of heterophyid intestinal flukes causing heterophyiasis. The species of this genus reported as the causative agents include H. heterophyes, H. dispars, and H. nocens. People can be infected by ingesting raw, undercooked, or salted fish containing metacercariae-infective stage. While H. heterophyes and H. dispars were reported in the Middle East, H. nocens was found in the Far East. 2,3
