Ciguatera: A Treating Physician's Perspective on a Global Illness

Ciguatera is an illness most often presenting as an acute multisystem, multisymptom syndrome acquired rapidly following consumption of piscivorous, reef-dwelling fish (ichthyosarcotoxism). The illness is most often seen in South Pacific and Caribbean regions, but with global transport of food fish, people can now be sickened worldwide with ciguatera.
