Abstract

Project management techniques continue to be a major avenue to accomplishing goals and objectives in various organizations, including government, defense, business, industry, and academia. The area of innovation management is particularly amenable to the application of project management tools and techniques because of the variety and diversity of activities involved in innovation pursuits. Activity networking and scheduling are essential in managing innovation activities. This chapter presents basic project management principles and techniques to facilitate getting the most out of innovation initiatives, from planning, organizing, scheduling, and control to project closeout. Project communication, cooperation, and coordination connect all the stages of innovation project management.
