Abstract

This chapter presents initial conditions and emphasizes the importance of undertaking experiments that should lead from inanimate chemical systems to living, self-reproducing, and self-evolving cells. Particular weight is given to the emergence of a molecular code between nucleic acids and proteins. Personal opinions give insights into the motivation, risks, and difficulties that escort such an endeavor.
