ABSTRACT
Polymers can be divided into various categories based on sources (natural or synthetic polymers), based on physical/mechanical properties (plastics, rubbers, and fibers), and based on thermal properties (thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers). In this chapter, we classify polymers into hydrocarbon polymers, oxygen-, nitrogen-, silicon-, and halogen-containing polymers according to their chemical structure.
