ABSTRACT

An observation such as this was consistent with the views of Arabian geographers of a time when Islamic civilization was dominant politically and culturally. From Spain

to Persia, Islamic political institutions were viewed as superior. Muslim traders and travelers provided accounts of other lands and, often, Arabian/Islamic values – represented in laws and political and religious institutions – were the standards by which others were evaluated.
