Abstract

Sampling in qualitative research is largely dependent on the goals or aims of the study and its specific research questions. The methodology, type of qualitative method, and research strategy all inform the sampling process. The italicized terms hold different meanings for different qualitative researchers, and they can be called by various names. Because there is no consensus on the definitions of these terms, a brief overview provides the working definitions we use in this chapter.
