ABSTRACT

This chapter is on nationalism in political theory. Although nationalism raises many interesting and important normative issues-such as the justifiability of the central nationalist methods and projects of national self-determination and nation-buildingthis chapter does not consider these. Rather, it is focused on the interface between nationalism theory and political theory, the ways in which nationalism has been (on the whole, inadequately) theorized in political theory, and the challenges that face theorizing about nationalism.
