ABSTRACT
This chapter will provide an overview of how international environmental law is funded. It will explore the structure, different types of funding and current and emerging trends. Central to this chapter will be the role and effectiveness of the funding mechanisms, such as trust funds, market mechanisms and the Global Environment Facility. This chapter will consider the international environmental treaty regimes for which funding mechanisms provide fi nancial resources, and the way that they have evolved.
