ABSTRACT

South East Asian nations share many similar environmental issues to those in other parts of the world. The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) envisions a green and clean region. However, effective environmental governance has not been fully achieved. This chapter evaluates recent development in South East Asia including the implementation of legal frameworks and a governance system to meet changing circumstances. It is argued that there are still many political, policy and other challenges in South East Asia, and if the ASEAN vision for a green and clean region is to be realised, there is still much that needs to be done.
