ABSTRACT

Responsible investment (RI) in Scandinavia, which comprises Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, has very strong similarities, both in definition and strategies practiced, across country borders. To understand these commonalities, evident in both socially responsible investing (SRI) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the region, it is necessary to understand the shared cultural heritage and history of the Scandinavian countries. Throughout history the Scandinavian countries have shared land, language, and rule: Denmark and Norway were one country from 1387 until 1814, and Sweden and Norway were united through a personal union of separate kingdoms from 1814 until 1905 (Morsing et al., 2007). The Scandinavian languages are easily understood across borders.
