ABSTRACT

At the beginning of 2013 the Argentine economy showed clear signs of stagnation with 25% annual inflation; the country risk was more than twice that of Spain and Italy, countries that are suffering crises not very different to the crisis Argentina suffered in 2001; and there was a black market premium in the foreign exchange market of around 50%. This happened in spite of the fact that the country has been reducing its foreign debt since 2002.
