Over the years, I have encountered Stanislavsky, especially in his actor training, in different ways and with changing attitudes. After mixed experiences with this training in my undergraduate and graduate work, I began to read Stanislavsky's work on my own, with somewhat more success. During graduate school, I became acquainted with a very powerful way of learning — the training of Tadashi Suzuki's Company of Toga (SCOT). Eight years later, I became aware of Anne Bogart's Viewpoints training when we formed the Saratoga International Theater Institute (SITI) with Suzuki and Anne. In this chapter, I will tell the story of how these three ways of working intertwined and helped to form me as an actor.
