Introduction

There is certainly, then, no lack of interest in religious-and especially theisticbelief today. This interest is evident in many domains, from popular radio and television shows, to the rarefied halls of the academy. Indeed, despite the best efforts of the new atheists and their ilk, and the flippancy of certain mid-twentieth-century philosophers such as Bertrand Russell (1957), it is no longer viable simply to dismiss theistic philosophy as unworthy of serious intellectual attention.
