ABSTRACT

A large-scale sports event can be a boost for a city, but it can never be enough (Gold & Gold, 2007). In addition to managing the event itself, host cities need to be prepared to exploit its legacy in the medium to long term (Pyo et al., 1988; Kassens-Noor, 2012). A legacy is deemed positive when a city or territory is able to leverage a sports event by generating positive results in one or more of the following areas: urban, social, cultural, human capital and political, based on a strategic approach (Preuss, 2007).
