ABSTRACT

Talent management (TM) and leadership development (LD) are two inter-related, emerging topics in HRD. This chapter will discuss similarities and differences between the two in a global context in relation to the following questions and issues:

• How are talent and leadership defined? • Inclusive or exclusive approach? • Performance or potential? • Born or made? • Person, position or process? • Individual or collective? • Are TM and LD fashions? • Are TM and LD ethical? • Are global LD/TM different from domestic LD/TM? • How can we develop talent and leadership? • Where next?
