Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of things in the most general and abstract of terms. It thus considers questions such as what kinds of thing there are. But this is so general that the concern tends to be with categories of things rather than particular things. Hence, some of the fundamental questions concern the nature and existence of substances, properties and relations, time, causation, identity, natural kinds and laws of nature. 1
