ABSTRACT

Working in a developing country as a designer introduced me to the issues of gender and sustainability. I sought to ‘unpick’ the complexity and grappled with theory before committing to a pragmatic feminism that allows me to look for where women are visible and to magnify where they are not. I take an explicitly feminist perspective when reading literature, exploring and analysing discourse. A feminist perspective also ensures that ‘otherness’ can be explicitly sought and treated equally, although space does not permit me to address all difference in depth here.
