ABSTRACT

Not a day goes by that we are not exposed, in one way or another, to acts of hate, extremism and terrorism. Each day, the news media delivers stories of horrific acts of hate, bias and acts of terrorism. Hate and its respective crimes have been vilified in our everyday vernacular. Those perpetrated by the extremist groups and their “lone wolf” 2 soldiers have increased over the past decade. The rise in worldwide hate crimes, coupled with the changes in social and political environments, and the flourishing of various global groups, have been propagated and advanced through the use of technology by means of the Internet. These changes have lead to an increase in contentious websites, questionable material and, to say the least, dubious uses of available technology.
