ABSTRACT

The philosophy of education posited in this chapter is my own. It stems from my natural way of being, my intrinsic knowledge and beliefs, and has been honed by a lifetime in the teaching profession. My experiences have led me to a deeper understanding of myself, my values and my motivations. At times my practitioner research matches the validated research of others, and this will be referenced where appropriate. Overall, though, this work documents the conclusions of a reflective practitioner, and reflects the tacit knowledge described by Whitehead and McNiff (2006): ‘Practitioner researchers already know what they are doing in their everyday lives in the sense that knowledge is embedded in what they do’ (p. 13). It is a lived experience.
