ABSTRACT

According to the Global Terrorism Index (2018) that provides a barometer to the impact of terrorism, countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, and Somalia are amongst the most affected. Indeed, the terrorist groups responsible for the most deaths in 2017 included the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Al-Shabaab in East Africa, and Boko Haram in West Africa. It is right, therefore, that this chapter looks at the factors that contribute to radicalisation and recruitment in these world regions.
