ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the leadership and governance of women’s sport in Latin America. To understand the present, it is important to review the history of this region and how it has evolved. There have always been women leaders who have had an impact in the development of the socio-political context of this complex region of the world. Some women’s leadership in sport in Latin America are mentioned, particularly what the current leadership landscape looks like. More examples are provided from non-traditional women’s sports. There are indeed more women in leadership positions in sport, but there is still work to be done because there are social challenges that have prevented more women reaching top positions. Those challenges have been an incentive to overcome any sort of discrimination, with more participation. However, more published research is needed to empower more women in the Latin American region.
