ABSTRACT

Several other positions of CJN! result from this South and justice centered perspective. The network is an opponent of economic instruments for climate protection such as carbon trading and carbon offsets. One of its arguments is that carbon markets are not working because there are too many and free circulated certificates. As a consequence, Western companies could make profits by carbon trading without reducing emissions. Furthermore, projects for climate protection in the South would strengthen the dependence from Northern countries and often ignore the rights oflocal people. Due to the integration of these economic instruments in the Kyoto Protocol, CJN! rejects the protocol as weil as the enlargement of its period of validity (Casey 2012).
