ABSTRACT

La Via Campesina is ofhigh importance for the climate movement. With almost 150 member organizations, representing some 100,000 individuals, it is a big player with a broad and weilconnected basis. As a consequence, the organizational structure of the network is decentralized. It is separated into different world regions. In addition, the headquarters ofthe network periodically moves from country to country. Because of the huge number of members from South America and Asia, La Via Campesina is the strongest voice of the Global South in the international climate movement. The network is very active in mobilizing climate protest also because it relates climate change to other topics of its agenda such as agriculture, women, and human rights (La Via Campesina 2012).
