ABSTRACT

Learning disabilities are the most common type of disability in the fi eld of special education. Students with learning disabilities account for approximately half of all students receiving special education services in schools in the United States (Denton, Vaughn, & Fletcher, 2003). As of 2010, this amounts to more than 3,000,000 students with learning disabilities receiving special education or related services. Approximately 8% of all children, or 10% of boys and 6% of girls, between the ages of 5 and 17 have had a learning disability diagnosis (Pastor & Reuben, 2008). As a fi eld, the area of learning disabilities is constantly growing and changing, and it is one of the most active areas of special education research.
