ABSTRACT

The history of physical anthropology in Montenegro is closely connected to the Department of Physical Anthropology at the University of Belgrade. Since Montenegro was a part of Yugoslavia from 1918 until it declared independence in 2006, problems concerning physical anthropology were generally solved at the federal level. The founder and the only expert in the field of physical anthropology in Montenegro to date

was BožinaM. Ivanovic´ (1931-2002), a professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Montenegro’s Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His studies were dedicated to the origin of human populations in Montenegro and their development from prehistory to modern times. Currently there are no experts in physical anthropology in Montenegro and no appropriate

academic course either. For a brief period of time there was a course in physical anthropology held at the Department of Biology at the University of Montenegro, but it was soon to become only a part of the lecture course in genetics.
