Why do some children struggle with reading? From a sociocultural perspective, a child’s success or failure at learning depends on the child’s environment; in particular, it depends on the child’s interactions with others in the context of her cultural and historical background, the history of which is indicated in the learner’s cognitive functioning. Indeed, the environment interacts with the child’s cognition during learning and development.
