Abstract

In active sentences, the subject is the agent that performs the action denoted by the verb. In passive sentences, the subject is the receiver of the action, and the agent may or may not be expressed in the sentence. There are two types of passive constructions in Japanese, direct (regular) and indirect (adversative).
