ABSTRACT

The accurate determination of human body segment parameters has been a long-standing challenge in biomechanics. Body segment parameters are needed for inverse and forward dynamic modelling of human motion, but are also used in the development of crash-test dummies (Kim et al., 2003) and in specialized applications such as cockpit design (Hanavan, 1964). Several methods for measuring or estimating body segment parameters have been developed; however, limitations in these procedures have led to continued efforts for obtaining reliable measures (Cheng et al., 2000; Durkin et al., 2002; Martin et al., 1989).
