ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I provide an overview of the phonology, morphology and syntax of Babole, a representative Bantu C language. I will look first at phonological issues of segmental contrasts in consonants and vowels, vowel harmony and tone in nominal forms. Next I will survey aspects of nominal and verbal morphology, including the noun class system, de-verbal nominalization, and tense/mood/aspect (TMA) morphology in verbs. Finally I will sketch selected elements of the syntax of Babole, including the demonstrative system, the associative system, pronouns, and various aspects of noun phrase modification. I conclude with a description of Babole relative clauses.
