Abstract

The chapter offers a comprehensive overview of Bahá’í ideas about the afterlife, including burial laws and practices. The Bahá’í approach to life after death is compared to three main religious theories: reincarnation, bodily resurrection, and spiritual immortality. The chapter discusses Bahá’í beliefs on the afterlife in the context of broader Bahá’í philosophical views about material and spiritual reality, the duality of human nature, and the limitations of human knowledge. It pays special attention to Bahá’í philosophical arguments in favour of spiritual immortality and against reincarnation. The chapter also explores the progress of the soul after the death of the physical body, which Bahá’í writings describe using symbolic depictions of the spiritual world and afterlife.
