Abstract

This chapter describes the notion of peace in the Bahá’í Faith. For Bahá’ís, peace is both inward spiritual practice and outward social pursuit, the Faith’s purpose and practice. It examines the Bahá’í Faith’s positions on the oneness of humanity, the notion of personal transformation, the role of knowledge, and the necessity of ethical governance. It also describes key Bahá’í doctrines including the Faith’s administrative covenant, its notions of integration and disintegration, and its description of the Lesser Peace and the Most Great Peace. Finally, it highlights the Faith’s insistence of non-violent approaches and its integrative, comprehensive approach to global peace.
