ABSTRACT

The Belt and Road Initiative is an initiative proposed by the Chinese leadership to promote connectivity and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and the rest of the world based on the observation of and reflection on the situation of the world and after taking both domestic and international situations into consideration. In terms of international layout, the Silk Road Economic Belt focuses on building the six economic corridors and aims to bring together China, Central Asia, Russia and Europe (the Baltic), thereby linking China with the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean Sea through Central Asia and West Asia and connecting China with South East Asia, South Asia and the Indian Ocean. The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road is designed to go from the coast of China to Europe through the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean in one route, and from the coast of China through the South China Sea to the South Pacific in the other direction. In terms of domestic layout, the Belt and Road has identified 18 key provinces and formed a pattern of comprehensive advancement with coordinated land and marine development from east to west.
