ABSTRACT

In September and October 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping successively proposed the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which have attracted considerable attention from the international community and won a positive response from the countries involved. China adheres to the Silk Road spirit of “peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit”, follows the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and constantly expands cooperation consensus with countries along the routes to promote the transformation of the Belt and Road from a plan and design to concerted actions involving all parties. The Initiative aims to promote infrastructure development and greater connectivity, synergise the development policies and strategies of individual countries, deepen practical cooperation, encourage coordinated and interconnected development and bring about common prosperity. 1
