ABSTRACT

New-type major-country relationship remains the key to understanding China’s foreign policy. Although the frequency of this term has dropped significantly of late, it does not mean that the Chinese government has given it up. To a large extent, the intentions, connotations and goals of the new-style major-country relations have been integrated into “new-type international relations”. Some countries call for the return of major power competition and the increased risk of the Thucydides trap. In this context, it is necessary to re-evaluate the efforts made by the Chinese government.
