ABSTRACT

Since the reform and opening-up policy was launched in 1978, China has maintained its overall social stability and rapid economic development for a long period of time. It has become the world’s second largest economy and the world’s largest manufacturer, and its incidence of rural poverty has fallen from over 30% to below 4%. The two goals—ensuring that people’s basic needs are met and that their lives are generally decent—have been accomplished ahead of time and a great achievement known as the “Chinese miracle” has been made.
