ABSTRACT

Over the next two years, Williams continued to make her living through various ‘jobs’, such as writing music for film and arranging folk songs for radio broadcasts. Both women continued to have their large-scale works performed on various BBC radio stations. New music by Maconchy that premiered during this period included her Nocturne for orchestra (1950–51) and her String Quartet no. 6 (1950–51).
