ABSTRACT

During the first part of 1975, Maconchy continued to be very involved with the SPNM (Society for the Promotion of New Music), of which she was Chair until the spring of that year. She finished her children’s opera The King of the Golden River (Ridler, after Ruskin) (1975) and saw it performed at Oxford. Other works completed and performed that year included Epyllion for cello and orchestra (1973–5). Several of her string quartets were broadcast as a series on BBC Radio 3.
