ABSTRACT
There were several celebratory performances of her music, particularly in Wales, for Williams’s 70th birthday. But during this period, she had to face extended hospital treatment for a malignant cyst. Maconchy continued work on her dramatic cantata Héloïse and Abelard (1976–8) and finisher her Eleventh String Quartet (1976–7).
