In 1968, Williams and Maconchy continued to discuss their reactions to the contemporary music that surrounded them (from Bernstein and Maxwell Davies to Tippett) while finishing their orchestral works – Maconchy, Cloudscapes (1968) and Williams, Ballads (1968).
