Leaders have a powerful role to play in creating a happy and productive work environment. One strategy that has been shown to be effective in this regard is for gratitude to be valued and expressed by leaders and employees alike, as gratitude has been shown to enhance well-being and commitment in the workplace. However, there are a number of challenges to the experience of gratitude that reduce the likelihood that it will be expressed. Fortunately, the practice of mindfulness has been shown to enhance one’s experience of gratitude. This chapter will explore these issues and provide specific recommendations for mindfulness techniques that can be followed to facilitate the expression of gratitude.
