ABSTRACT

At 2018 Pakistan found itself precariously placed. In order to deal with its geographic location, Islamabad will need to show some deft handling of its external relations in a rapidly changing world. 1 Pakistan has to be mindful of what is happening in Afghanistan, the People’s Republic of China, India, Iran, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, the United States, as well as in Europe and the Middle East. It has borders with four of these countries which are in the throes of political change, and it is hard to predict which way they will go. A great deal of this change can be attributed to the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States in 2016. In reviewing Pakistan’s place in the world – where it is today and where it might be headed – this chapter will look at how the country will be affected by the changes occurring in these seven countries and the two regions.
