ABSTRACT

The great economist of the Austrian school and author of one of the most popular texts in economics, The Road to Serfdom by F. A. Hayek, 1 is reported to have criticized another great economist of the same era and author of another popular economics text, The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money by John Maynard Keynes, 2 for not knowing economic history well enough, especially that of the 19th century. In a popular video interview, 3 Hayek opined that Keynes knew very little of the history of economic thought and that his knowledge was predominantly only Marshallian in nature.
