ABSTRACT
The 70th anniversary of the birth of Pakistan marks an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of politics in the country. Unlike human beings who have reached that milestone, seventy is not long in the life of a nation. There are trends indicating continuity and trends indicating change. This chapter looks at the sweep of Pakistan’s history in order to gauge seminal moments in its political development. We will look at issues that frame progress and assess where Pakistan stands today. A look at the future prospects ends this analysis of political development in Pakistan.
