ABSTRACT

Drawing on fan studies, this chapter examines the phenomenon of fan-curated museums, which are defined by fans’ curatorial imprint in the exhibition of predominately fan-made displays, merchandise, and collectibles. The chapter investigates fan-run museums through the lens of “fan-induced tourism”: visits to attractions that are motivated by engagement with other fans and their work in specific local contexts. Thus, instead of theorizing fans as consumers of media tourism, this chapter examines how fans actively produce and run their own tourist attractions, targeting members of their community as well as tourists in general.
