ABSTRACT

When the Admiral’s Men settled at Henslowe’s Rose Theatre in 1594, they had two principal assets: the acting of Edward Alleyn and the plays of Christopher Marlowe. In that first season, Tamburlaine Part 1 was performed fourteen times and Part 2 six times; Dr Faustus was given twelve times, The Massacre at Paris ten times and The Jew of Malta nine times.
