ABSTRACT

Following the death of Josip Broz Tito in 1980, the multi-national state of Yugoslavia started to disintegrate. The federation, which was composed of six republics, had suffered from grave structural problems since its creation in 1945 – including unresolved historical conflicts, regional disparities, as well as severe political disputes over constitutional and economic matters.
