ABSTRACT
Religious extremism and terrorism are not recent phenomena in the European Union. In recent years, however, terrorism has emerged as a serious threat to both the security and stability of the values of our democratic societies and to the rights and freedoms of the European citizens. Since 2015, religiously inspired terrorist attacks in the EU have increased, making the fight against terrorism a top priority for the EU and every state in the Union.
